Am 3. Juli geht die Sonne um 20:58 unter. Mit dem
Sonnenuntergang beginnt die „bürgerliche Dämmerung” und
damit die sogenannte blaue Stunde. Sie dauert etwa bis
21:30.
Anschließend folgt die „nautische Dämmerung”: Das
Restlicht nimmt weiter ab, der Himmel wird zunehmend
dunkler, bis schließlich die Nacht einsetzt.
Die Musik ist verklungen, nur die Lichtprojektionen auf
den Häuserfassaden bleiben zurück.
Mit dem Kunstprojekt „TRIESTER“ wird die Grazer
Triestersiedlung am 3. Juli 2026 für einen Abend zu einem
außergewöhnlichen Schauplatz für Musik, Klangkunst und
Lichtinstallationen. Ziel des Projekts ist es, den
Lebensraum der Bewohnerinnen und Bewohner im Stadtbezirk
Gries sichtbar und hörbar zu machen. Hauptsponsor ist die
GWS.
Im Zentrum steht die Beteiligung der Anrainerinnen und
Anrainer: Gemeinsam mit dem Musiker und Komponisten Josef
Klammer wurden seit Jahresbeginn Alltagsgeräusche aus
Wohnungen, Stiegenhäusern und Freiflächen gesammelt und zu
einer Komposition verarbeitet. Die öffentliche Aufführung
erfolgt gemeinsam mit dem STIO – The Styrian Improvisers
Orchestra im Innenhof der Wohnanlage Reiherstadlgasse
33–37.
Ergänzt wird das Konzert durch Lichtprojektionen des
deutschen Künstlers Kurt Laurenz Theinert, die die
Fassaden der Wohnanlage in einen akustisch-visuellen
Erlebnisraum verwandeln. Neue Fotografien der Künstler
Martin Behr und Martin Osterider, die die Triestersiedlung
seit vielen Jahren dokumentieren, sind ebenfalls Teil des
Projekts.
„TRIESTER“ stärkt die Nachbarschaft, schafft Raum für
Begegnung und eröffnet neue Perspektiven auf den
gemeinsamen Lebensraum. Begleitend wurde ein Schulprojekt
mit der Volksschule Triester umgesetzt. Die entstandenen
Klänge bleiben über die Uraufführung hinaus erhalten und
erscheinen in einer limitierten Edition unter dem Titel
REMEMORY TRIESTER.
Eine radiophone Bearbeitung von TRIESTER folgt am 5.
Oktober in der Sendereihe „Blaue Stunde” auf ORF Ö1.
Historischer Rückblick
1986 entwickelte Josef Klammer
gemeinsam mit :: Seppo Gründler
im Rahmen der :: Steirische
Kulturinitiative das Projekt ::
HEIMATKLANG – KLANGHEIMAT für
Eisenerz (Uraufführung am 27. Juni 1986). Dabei wurden
erstmals Alltagsgeräusche mittels Sampling mit
traditionellem Musikmaterial zu einer ortsbezogenen
Klangcollage verbunden. Das Projekt gilt als frühes
Beispiel partizipativer Klangkunst im öffentlichen Raum.
2013 realisierte Klammer im Rahmen des
Festivals Olala in Lienz das Projekt ::
WEIDENSPITZ mit Bewohnerinnen und
Bewohnern eines Wohnblocks. Auch hier wurde das
akustische Innenleben des Wohnraums im öffentlichen Raum
hörbar gemacht. Mitwirkender war der Lichtkünstler
Laurenz Theinert, der auch
bei „TRIESTER“ Fassaden bespielt.
Das Projekt TRIESTER erfolgt in Zusammenarbeit mit dem
Stadtteilzentrum Triester und der :: Styrian Assiciation for
New and Improvised Music.

On July 3rd, the sun sets at 8:58 p.m. As daylight
fades, the blue hour begins and lingers until around
9:30 p.m.
Then comes nautical twilight: the last traces of light
dissolve, the sky deepens into darkness, and night
slowly takes over.
The music has faded; only the projections cast upon the
façades remain.
With the art project TRIESTER, the Triestersiedlung
housing estate in Graz will become an extraordinary
venue for music, sound art, and light installations for
one evening on 3 July 2026. The project aims to make the
living environment of residents in the Gries district
visible and audible. The main sponsor is GWS.
At the heart of the project is the participation of
local residents. Since the beginning of the year,
everyday sounds from apartments, stairwells, and open
spaces have been collected in collaboration with
musician and composer Josef Klammer and transformed into
a new composition. The public performance will take
place together with STIO – The Styrian Improvisers
Orchestra in the courtyard of the residential complex at
Reiherstadlgasse 33–37.
The concert will be complemented by light projections by
German artist Kurt Laurenz Theinert, transforming the
façades of the housing estate into an immersive
audiovisual environment. New photographs by artists
Martin Behr and Martin Osterider, who have documented
the Triestersiedlung for many years, will also form part
of the project.
TRIESTER strengthens neighbourhood connections, creates
opportunities for social interaction, and opens up new
perspectives on the shared living environment. In
addition, an educational project has been developed in
cooperation with Triester Primary School. The sounds
created during the project will continue to exist beyond
the premiere and will be released as a limited-edition
publication entitled REMEMORY TRIESTER.
A radiophonic adaptation of TRIESTER will be broadcast
on 5 October 2026 as part of the programme series “Blaue
Stunde” on ORF Ö1.
